Upgraded Fuel Facilities at Raby Bay

The landmark marina at Raby Bay, south of Brisbane, has upgraded its fuel facilities to meet the challenge of increased business combined with its commitment to management best practice and environmental responsibility.

The intensive upgrade, which was undertaken over a period of just two weeks, included the removal of old and failing pipework from the  refuelling pontoon, the installation of four new custom-made under-pump sumps, incorporating adaptor plates for future upgrades to new model fuel dispenser pumps and the installation of compliant double walled HDPE pipework in purpose made trenches on the refuelling pontoon.

Raby Bay Marina contracted leading fuel installation and maintenance engineers, Petrolink Engineering, to undertake the upgrade prior to south east Queensland’s peak boating season of spring and summer. Petrolink utilised marine grade 316 stainless steel on fabrication work to ensure on the longevity of the installation against corrosion and damage – saving Raby Bay further expenditure in the long term.

The project also included the re-fit of four existing dual hose fuel bowsers on new custom-made under-pump sumps and connected pipework with new stainless-steel shear valves which prevent fuel spills into the waterways should the fuel dispensers become damaged due to collision with water craft or rough weather.

Prior to hand-over, pressure testing of new fuel lines to manufacturer’s specification and Australian Standards was conducted by Petrolink’s technicians.

According to Raby Bay Marina’s Manager, Rob Somers, the upgrade of the fuel facilities is an important component of the whole facility’s ongoing maintenance program.

“It is important to ensure the operation of our marina goes smoothly 24-7, and fuel is an important service to our customers. Petrolink did a great job with a quality outcome as usual,” he said.
